Malta says "yes" to divorce

Malta says "yes" to the divorce. The referendum for the legalization is passed by a clear majority of 54% of the vote. The island had been the last European country that has not yet recognized this institution. The Maltese voted in net despite an intensive campaign by the Church, who last night before the polls closed, he issued a note of apology to the voters for a few messages that were deemed "not to insult or clear" by of some members of the clergy.

And against the advice of Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, leader of the nationalist party that ruled for 25 years. Gonzi, who had led his party to take a clear position against divorce or clear, today expressed his "neutrality" against the verdict and asked Members to "respect this." The head of the movement for "yes", Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando said that this result is significant because it brings Malta to a new era where church and state are finally separated.

Satisfaction was expressed by the Italian League for Divorce brief: "The Maltese people have said yes to a divorce by refusing arrogant campaign by the Church, which belatedly apologized - said the secretary Diego Sabatinelli -. Once again common sense prevails over power, and the reasonableness wins arrogance: that Malta has finally welcomed in Europe.
