New violence leaves at least seven dead in Yemen

Military sources said a military officer and four policemen were killed Wednesday, April 13 in a clash north of Sanaa between the police and army units have joined the protest movement. Police attacked in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday with automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenade an army checkpoint in Amran, 170 km north of Sanaa.

This dam is held by the military of the first armored division whose commander, General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, also commander of the northeast region, announced March 21 to join the protest movement against President Ali Abdullah Saleh. In Aden, the main town in the south, two protesters were killed and four were wounded by the army, who fired on protesters on Wednesday morning, said medical sources and witnesses.

The army opened fire on youths who placed the barrels in the middle of the floor areas in Mansoura and Moualla to paralyze traffic on Wednesday to enforce a general strike call. The protesters demand the resignation of President Ali Abdallah Saleh, in power for thirty-two years, have appealed to strike on Wednesday in Sana'a, Aden and other cities.
