Mubarak and children liable for embezzlement

Hosni Mubarak was detained for 15 days, which gives the general board that governs Egypt a break in the protests over suspicions that he was trying to protect the former leader of an investigation. State television said Mubarak, 82, and his sons Gamal and Alaa would appear in a Cairo court on Tuesday for questioning by the prosecutor who ordered his arrest.

Mubarak was ousted on February 11 by a mass revolt against his 30 years of authoritarian rule, suffered a "heart attack" on Tuesday during questioning and is in intensive care. There were conflicting reports about the condition of the former president. A doctor appointed by the Court was considering the former leader to see if he could be transferred to another hospital, medical sources reported.

The public prosecutor Mubarak called on Sunday for questioning over the death of the demonstrators and the misappropriation of public funds. His two sons, Alaa and Gamal, were questioned as part of research and state television later reported that they were arrested. In his first public comments since resigning, broadcast Sunday by Al Arabiya, Mubarak denied any wrongdoing.

The former president's sons also were taken to a prison on the outskirts of Cairo, joining a list of former ministers and officials under investigation.
