The Bolivarian Venezuela and solidarity among Member

In January 2006 I visited for the first time in Venezuela, at the World Social Forum in Caracas. I left with my friend Gianluca Belei photojournalist, with the idea of a photographic exhibition on the experiences underway in the country, then presented the Italo-Latin American Institute in Rome and elsewhere (some of these photos are still visible here) .

With the support of some people I met almost by accident during the Forum, we were able to visit a poor neighborhood of Caracas in what was going on the allocation of land and houses to the residents, a neighborhood, too poor, Valencia, one of largest city of Venezuela, where Cuban doctors in Venezuela and other Latin American countries provided a health service to people who had never seen a doctor in their lives, and many other places where the Venezuelan people gave life to moments of leadership, such as , attending school until late at night where he taught various subjects, organizing cooperatives among mechanical shops to sell food at popular prices.

It all began in 1989 with the popular uprising known as the Caracazo, a lifting of the hungry poor who was violently suppressed and has been a wonderful film. It was from such a traumatic experience that she reached the decision of the young Venezuelan army officers, including Chávez, not to shoot but never on the people to contribute to the achievement of a society more humane, just and participatory.

Chavez first tried with the weapons and then with the elections to overthrow the corrupt and oppressive regime of the so-called Punto Fijo (fixed point) based on a false alternating between center and center left. Chávez presented himself as presidential candidate in 1998 and won. Since then, the Venezuelan people has constantly renewed its confidence and support.

In 1999 was passed and approved by referendum a constitution very advanced. In 2002 a few rich businessmen, owners of television, inspired and supported by foreign powers like the United States of Bush and Aznar of Spain attempted a coup that was defeated by the popular reaction and the loyalty of the armed forces.

The mobilization of the working class areas of Caracas and other cities and the intervention of troops meant that choices do not end up like in Chile in 1973. Even this story was immortalized by a beautiful film, La revolución no será transmitida (The revolution will not be transmitted).

I returned to Venezuela in December 2007 as an international observer for the presidential elections, ensuring the functioning of the electoral system and, speaking with representatives of the lists of the majority and opposition, I could see the correctness of voting, which provide the user with feedback electronic voting, which would also introduced in Italy to avoid possible fraud.

Even at the international level the action of the Bolivarian Venezuela has been important, creating an alliance, the Alba, which proposes a new model of integration based on the principle of solidarity. These include Bolivia, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Ecuador and other countries. It was also part of the Honduras up to the coup that ousted the legitimate President Zelaya.

Venezolana Dawn of the Constitution and will speak Monday, April 18 at 16 to CNR, via dei Taurini 19, with the Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Italy, José Luis Acosta Berroteran.
