Two new resignations within the Tunisian government

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mohamed Nouri Jouini, which appeared in the last government of ousted President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, presented his resignation Monday, February 28. The announcement of his departure follows a few hours of the Minister of Industry and Technology of the transitional government, Mohamed Afif Chelbi, also a member of the ousted leader's last cabinet last month.

The double resignation came a day after the resignation of Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi, soon replaced by Beji Caid Essebsi to head the transitional government. Their presence was challenged by demonstrators in the square of the Kasbah in Tunis, which require about ten days since the start of the transitional government.

The departure of Mr. Ghannouchi did not seem to have convinced the protesters. "We continue our sit-in until the formation of a Constituent Assembly and the recognition of the council to protect the revolution," said Monday's sit-in coordinator, Mohamed Fadhel, referring to a group of opposition in training.

Tunisia's capital has undergone several days of protest and violence: six people were killed including Saturday, during clashes with the opposition to Tunis security forces to protesters. Since the fall and flight of former President Ben Ali on January 14 and the appointment of Mr. Ghannouchi as first prime minister of the post-Ben Ali, Tunisian Executive has had little respite.

The first team had formed Mohamed Ghannouchi, including the heavyweights of the old regime, has not held two weeks. After five days of events under his windows, he had thrown in the towel on January 27 and formed a new team redacted, while saving his head.
