Argentina Argentina .- punishes the responsible company to hire 140 workers in slavery

BUENOS AIRES, 1 Feb. The Argentine government has sanctioned the company Dupont with the suspension of the home office by hiring more than 140 workers who toiled in slavery in various fields of corn in the Paraje Monte del Rosario, Córdoba province (central). "The Customs home scheme is based on the fiscal reliability of the firms" and, in this situation, the company "ceased to be a reliable operator," said Ricardo Echegaray, director of the Federal Administration of Public Revenue (AFIP).

The workers had been hired by Adecco SA Specialities to serve the company Pioneer Argentina, which depends in turn on the multinational Dupont. The benefit of Domiciliary Customs Regime aims to facilitate foreign trade for companies with large trading volumes of both exports and imports of goods, reports the news agency Telam.

Dupont Argentina had reached standards above the 2,800 transactions in the international market, for a total of $ 115 million (83.2 million euros), has confirmed Echegaray, by asserting that despite these achievements, "suspended the license AFIP it ceased to be a reliable operator. " About 140 people worked in "unhealthy and precarious conditions" in three fields operated by the company Adecco Specialities.

Each employee was paid about 93 pesos (17 euros) at the end of the day, which was deducted a percentage of the damage caused to plants to shell corn, the exact amount unknown. Apparently, none of the workers - mostly from the province of Santiago del Estero (north) - could leave the plantation to receive the approval of the head, causing serious problems of transport and public buses that pass closest to 40 miles away.

This is not the first time that the Argentine authorities report cases of slavery in the fields. In early January, officials of the Prosecutor of Argentina found a group of 120 people working in precarious conditions in a field in the town of Ramallo, northeast of the province of Buenos Aires.
