Israel uncovers a vast deposit of natural gas

It is with Tamar, one of two very promising offshore fields discovered in recent years off from Israel. It is probably the most important discovery in energy since the establishment of the State of Israel. The U.S. group Noble Energy, the main operator of an offshore natural gas field off the coast of Israel, called Leviathan, said Wednesday, December 29 that its reserves were estimated at 450 billion m3, which will enable Israel to become an exporter.

Good news for Israel, which suffers from energy dependence on countries with which Tel Aviv has no necessarily good relations. This new estimate confirms the expected passage of Leviathan at the forefront of the second gas fields operated by Israel in the Mediterranean. "Leviathan is the last great discovery of Noble Energy and the largest discovery in the exploration of our history, welcomed in a statement Charles Davidson, owner of Noble Energy, based in Houston, Texas (southern USA) .

The tests are still needed to know the precise capacity of Leviathan, which lies off the Israeli city of Haifa (north). It is with Tamar, one of two very promising offshore fields discovered in recent years off from Israel. "Israel could become a gas exporter to Europe.

We are also ready to cooperate in such a project with foreign investors, but also with Greece and Cyprus, "he recently told the Israeli minister of national infrastructure Uzi Landau. These ambitions nevertheless face the challenge to neighboring countries. maritime borders with Lebanon are not defined when the two countries are technically at war.

Turkey, former ally of Israel, also believes having a say. She protested against an agreement on delimitation of economic zones Exclusive concluded on December 17 between Israel and Cyprus, to enable both countries to further research submarine hydrocarbon without fear of conflict exploitation.

The entry into production of Leviathan should not intervene, according to analysts, 2017. Noble Energy holds 39.6% of the rights to Leviathan, followed by companies Delek Drilling and Avner Oil Exploration, amounting to 22.67% each, and Ratio Oil Exploration, for the rest.
