Reactor explodes and fear for radioactive leak

Nuclear Security Agency of Japan reported that the reactor number three in the Fukushima nuclear plant exploded due to hydrogen combustion, while a false alarm that warned of a new tsunami in the same province. The NHK showed footage where white smoke coming out of the complex, which is located 250 kilometers from Tokyo, and reported that the blast knocked down a wall of the building that houses the reactor.

Japanese government spokesman, Yukio Edan, acknowledged that there was a possibility that there have been significant leakage of radioactivity. The explosion, however, did not damage the container of the reactor, the agency Jiji, quoting Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO), operator of the plant.

Kyodo news agency said authorities asked 600 residents who had not been evacuated, do not leave their homes until further notice. Fukushima plant is one that has been more damaged from the earthquake of nine degrees on the Richter scale devastated several cities in the East. In fact, yesterday was the second explosion at the complex, which has struggled with three reactors for malfunction in the cooling system, due to lack of electricity, and also reported levels of radiation above the legal limit.

Parallel to the explosion, news agencies reported that a wave of ten feet high approached Fukushima, even the authorities issued a new tsunami warning, setting off alarms. Minutes later the national weather agency denied the release. Kyodo news agency reported last night that two thousand bodies were found in Miyagi province, increasing the death toll.
