.- Japan today raised the level of severity grade nuclear accident in Fukushima, where they continued efforts to provide electricity through external cables and cool the reactors with risky operations from trucks. Nuclear Security Agency of Japan raised the alert to level 5 Fukushima, the accident "with far-reaching consequences," considering that there was "a radiation leak continued." This worsening occurred despite warning that in the vicinity of the plant radioactivity measurements showed a slight decline, today, compared to the levels recorded on Thursday.
Military personnel and employees of TEPCO, which operates the plant, tankers continued from the reactor cooling work three, the most damaged of the six Fukushima and that Eve was also ground and air sprayed with salt water. Japan government spokesman Yukio Edan, said in one of his many press conferences, constant since the beginning of the crisis, apparently part of the 50 tons of seawater would have reached today released the pool of nuclear reactor fuel to Judging by the steam during operation.
It is a container in which the fuel is stored and used that to lower the water can overheat and emit radioactive substances. All indications are that the remote injection of water today, coupled with yesterday made helicopters and trucks has helped reduce the levels of radioactivity in the vicinity of the plant, but Tokyo Electric Corporation (TEPCO) considered it too early to ascertain whether this trend will continue.
While the evacuation perimeter remained at 20 km, Japanese Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, today promised transparency in reporting on the nuclear accident at a meeting with Yukiya Amano, Director International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Amano considered "very serious" situation in Fukushima Japan requested the Government to disclose more information about the crisis before the alarm created in the world.
The head of the IAEA arrived in Japan to check up on the status of the plant, which will hereinafter also monitored by experts from the agency to confirm the radiation emitted. Although it is unknown what the extent of the accident in Fukushima, about 250 kilometers from Tokyo, the increased level of severity by Japan up to 5 places it at the height of which took place at the nuclear plant at Three Mile Island, in the U.S.
in 1979. Level seven reached only the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. Despite worldwide alarm, experts from countries like the United Kingdom believe that even in the worst case the power would create a situation similar Fukushima. Although much of the attention is focused on the fuel pool of unit three, the other five reactors at the Fukushima plant an also problematic.
In the first and second priority is to restore electricity to power the system mechanically pumped water reactors, which was damaged by the tsunami on 11 March. So far it has been running cables to the ground, but still be connected to systems of each of the units, which TEPCO hopes to accomplish for tomorrow afternoon, Saturday.
Furthermore, it is considering releasing water to the nuclear fuel pool of unit one, and it also could have dropped the liquid level although apparently still carries a risk of flight as immediate material radioactive reactor as three and four.
