Thousands of prisoners escaping from various prisons in Egypt

.- Warplanes Air Force are flying over the center of the Egyptian capital, for the first time since protests broke out against the regime of Hosni Mubarak. Thousands of prisoners have escaped in the last hours in different prisons of Egypt and in some cases the arsenals of the prisons are at risk of being lost, reported several media today.

In the Wadi el Natrun prison, one of the largest in the country, located in the desert road between Cairo and Alexandria, many prisoners have escaped, said General Ahmed Helmi Egyptian state television. Helmi, speaking from prison, said it welcomes more than 11 000 prisoners prisoners and has thousands of weapons, but could not say how many prisoners have escaped from the prison.

"I took my gun and I drove to the prison after receiving a distress call and saw on both sides of the road many prisoners have escaped some of their own accord and others have been forced to flee because the jail is destroyed or because they participated in destroying it, and some stolen guns, "said the general.

Helmi, who was accompanied on the prison grounds only one general and two officers, called on Egyptian authorities to regain control of the prison and prevent the arrival of weapons at the hands of prisoners. "We face a real crisis, we are not talking about guns but knives and other weapons from the Ministry of Interior," said Helmi.

In this prison inmates are detained Islamists and communists who had spent years incarcerated there. This leak and other prisons around the country came as police kept off the streets since Friday night. Security has been in charge of the Army, which oversees strategic points of Cairo and other cities, and groups of neighbors who have agreed to protect people and property, especially during the period of curfew.

Egyptian state television said, quoting witnesses, Abu Zabal prison, north of Cairo, home to some two thousand pesos prisoners, there has been a revolt of prisoners who clashed with police who were responsible for protection of the prison. A witness who lives near the prison, told the chain that several trucks carrying armed men arrived at the prison and opened fire on police to release prisoners.

The building was completely destroyed and the place are twenty corpses, some police officers and other prisoners. Dozens of inmates have tried to jump over the wall of the Tora prison south of Cairo, and escape from one of the gates of the prison, according to witnesses told Egyptian television.

One of the citizens in the province of Oct. 6, north of Cairo, called on the Army through the television to protect the inhabitants in this area, as several escaped prisoners have been there. The Egyptian authorities have reported the arrest of at least 450 people, only in Cairo for alleged looting during the last hours.

These civil unrest comes as the country is awaiting the appointment of the new government today after being named yesterday as Prime Minister Gen. Ahmed Shafiq.
