Are you gay? Then you die

David Kato was a militant gay Ugandan. He worked for the organization Sexual Minorities Uganda. Teacher, graduated from an institution of post-apartheid South Africa, Kato had left the profession to devote himself solely to defending the rights of gay and lesbian people in Uganda are threatened by a bill (tabled in Parliament in 2009) which aimed to introduce the penalty death for the crime of homosexual relations - a law delirious, in fact, an abomination in itself, which among other things would have the return of Ugandans in Uganda who had committed homosexual acts in other States.

In 2010, the local magazine Rolling Stone showed Kato and another 100 as homosexual activists, bringing even their addresses. "Hang!" Said the headline. Kato then filed due to the magazine for invasion of privacy, and won. But he was no good: January 26, 2011, Kato was brutally murdered in her home.

The incident took huge echo. The Ugandan government have rained harsh criticism and appeals from around the world, particularly by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. But today not only to disturb the soothing police response, which has so far not carried out any thorough investigation into the murder, giving credence to improbable hypothesis, but a letter from the chairman of the Ugandan Parliament, announced last April 18 .

In the letter, the ambassador said that what would be wrong to spread abroad: Kato was killed by a guy he did not want to pay for sexual favors. Too bad that the specific circumstances of the assassination, little is known precisely because they are constant false leads in place by the police and the Ugandan government.

In addition, moreover, that behind the homophobic campaign created by Rolling Stone - along with dozens of statements, which are also homophobic, ministers, secretaries and sottosottosegretari - hides an American evangelical church, which at a conference in 2009 had stressed that " gay groups from hell and are a threat to family and society.

" Nothing new under the sun. Homosexuals have always been subject to violence and discrimination of all kinds. And the typical response we've heard: If you are looking for. It 's the perfect logic of Christian redemption, who wanted everything that happens not to the violence of others against an individual or a group, but the choices of that individual and of that group.

The victim becomes an executioner, responsible for his downfall. Like Matthew Shepard, murdered at the age of 21 years by two contemporaries in Wyoming in 1998. It 'was his fault - they said - because we had tried one of them. As the mayor of Moscow, at the Gay Pride in 2006 ripetutatmente said that it could not be taken because otherwise the police would protect the demonstrators from violent attacks of the population.

All people, this, which declares religious practitioner. We should reflect on the role (primary, negative, necessary) to convey messages of religious discourse in the homophobic and violent. It also happens to us, anyway. Just yesterday, Mr Paola Tanning has been the subject of yet another homophobic verbal attack on the street.

Even if she was asking for it - someone will come to mind - it shook the hand of his companion. These accusations make you smile, but there is very little to smile about. David Kato would have turned 47 years within three weeks and its history shows unquestionably that of homosexuality are still dying.

And if you do not kill off, cover your soul with insults.
