The Egyptian army appointed a committee to amend the Constitution

The Egyptian army has appointed a committee of lawyers responsible for amending the Constitution, which met for the first time Tuesday, February 15, while Chief of the Supreme Council of the armed forces. "The military wants to hand over power to a [civil government] as soon as possible" and "wants amendments to the Constitution," said Sobhi Saleh, lawyer and former member of the Muslim Brotherhood, a member of that committee.

The Supreme Council, responsible for running the country since the departure Friday of President Hosni Mubarak met Sunday with representatives of youth groups who organized the revolt against the regime, according to two cybermilitants. According to them, the army wants the Constitution be amended by ten days before a referendum on the amendments within two months.

The commission appointed to amend the Constitution shall consist of eight members and is chaired by Tarek El-Bechri, former chairman of the State Council, a highly respected personality.
