Brazil .- It is 470 dead by the rains in Rio de Janeiro

BRASILIA, 14 The death toll from torrential rains on the state of Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil, has risen to 470, however, this figure could rise further because it relates solely to the number of bodies identified as reported the Institute of Legal Medicine. In addition, there are 10,680 displaced and some 4,750 people have been left homeless.

For cities, the most affected is Nova Friburgo, where 214 people have been killed, 1,970 evacuated and there are 3,220 whose homes are demolished. Teresópolis, the balance is 208 fatalities, 960 people evacuated and 1,280 homeless. In Petrópolis Itaipava and the death toll is the same, 35, although in the latter city amounted to 6,500 displaced and homes destroyed to 1,500.

More discreet is the number of Sumidouro, with 13 dead. In this context, the Minister of Justice, José Eduardo Cardozo, announced within hours that a contingent of 250 men and several ambulances and helicopters from the National Power reach Rio de Janeiro to speed up rescue efforts, especially in the mountainous region, where thousands of people remain isolated.

"All of solidarity must be provided to the government of Rio and the state's population. We have to add all the efforts of federal and state government so that together we can mitigate the effects of this situation," Cardozo said in comments reported by the newspaper 'O Globo'. In parallel, the International Red Cross teams have traveled to the affected cities to provide food and other commodities to the population and health care.

Teresópolis, the head of the medical team, Claudia Miguel Coelho, has indicated that it is providing tetanus vaccine preventively. To alleviate the emergency, the President, Dilma Rousseff, has authorized the delivery of 780 million reais in the municipalities most affected. Of the total, 700 million (318 million) will go to the National Civil Defence - 600 (272) for emergency work and 100 (45) prevention - and 80 (36) left the Ministry of Transport, for the rehabilitation of roads destroyed.
