More than 5.17 million tourists visited Argentina in 2010

MADRID, 20 More than 5.17 million tourists visited Argentina in 2010, according to projections by the national authorities, a figure that, if confirmed, would mean an increase of almost 20 percent from 2009, when it exceeded 4.31 million. Between January and September last year reached almost 3.7 million visitors, up 22 percent over the same period last year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism and the Bureau of Market Research and Statistics.

In total, in the first nine months of 2010, foreign tourists spent during their stay in Argentina about 3.326 million dollars and it is expected that full-year data show an increase of almost 24 percent from 2009, when spent 3.839 million dollars. The Argentine Minister of Tourism, Enrique Meyer, said Thursday at the stand of his country in the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid that Argentine tourism "has made tremendous progress" since 2004, when there were only two years since to the severe economic crisis that began in 1999.

Meyer noted that today Argentina "is establishing itself as quality service provider" and the situation is "completely different" from 2004. The minister has indicated that the new campaign, 'Argentina beats you' are looking for a "pooling between the tourist and the destination." "Argentina is a prime tourist country, from its very wide range of landscapes and attractions, with high levels of environmental protection in line with today's demanding sustainable tourism," the minister said.

The country is deployed from the subtropical forest in the extreme north to the icy Antarctica in its southernmost point.
