Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the African Union mediator in the Ivorian crisis, arrived in Abidjan Monday, Jan. 17 to try again to convince the outgoing president, Laurent Gbagbo, to cede power. Mr Odinga arrived early afternoon at the airport in Abidjan where he was met with the delegation by the Gbagbo government of Prime Minister, Gilbert N'Gbo Ake and his foreign minister, Alcide Djedje .
The envoy is scheduled to meet in the afternoon the two presidents announced the Ivory Coast, Gbagbo and his rival, Alassane Ouattara, each claiming victory in the presidential election of 28 November. Kenyan Prime Minister arrived in Nigeria where he said come in Côte d'Ivoire carrying a "new peace offer" to Mr Gbagbo.
Mr. Ouattara, recognized as the new Ivorian president by nearly all of the international community has called for the use of force to oust the incumbent head of state.
