CAIRO - Two Iranian warships are to transit the Suez Canal directly to Syria. The move, according to officials from the Channel, will take place in the coming hours, but it is yellow: according to Iranian state television Al Alam had already happened. News, however, also denied by the agency Fars, as well as the head of the Canal.
The agency says that the two warships in Tehran "will now" in the Channel and "will arrive tomorrow in the Mediterranean." Immediate reaction of Israel, which has already defined the transition, the first since the Khomeini revolution of 1979, as "a provocation". Concern was expressed by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
The military came to power after the fall of Mubarak, approved the request of Tehran to ships transiting the canal. Request difficult to manage for the interim government: Cairo is an ally of the United States and signed a peace treaty with Israel and its relations with Iran have been strained by the Khomeini revolution.
"No Iranian warships have crossed the Suez Canal," confirmed the director of operations of the Canal, Ahmad al Manakhly. "Not today, not yesterday or the day before" took place on the passage of two Iranian ships from the canal, the official said. The Egyptian agency MENA said that the agreement between Tehran and Cairo provides that ships carrying nuclear or chemical weapons and materials.
