A few months ago I found myself in a training course with colleagues of various nationalities. At one point we were asked to group them by country and lists the main characteristics of the nationality in question but also those for which (rightly or wrongly) that nationality and culture is known abroad.
For the second category without hesitation I suggested to my fellow Italians plenty of tits and ass on TV, and I was quite surprised to find myself isolated. No, my colleagues said, is not so strange, it also happens in other countries. So my proposal has no place in the list. Except then be loudly applauded by colleagues (non-Italian) at the time of the presentation: I do not remember who mentioned it, but all reacted with great enthusiasm to describe (and mocking) the exposure of the female body in the ether italics.
That, contrary to what suits us think, is by no nomal and has no equal elsewhere. It was a long time that I wanted to write to inspire women to take a stand, to dissociate itself from the incredible model of the body that emerges from the current sale of Arcore but also now for twenty years, from any TV channel at any time of day (and, obviously the night).
Fortunately, in the wake of the last scandal, one can see signs of hope. Among them Giulia Innocenzi's blog, other blogs of the event, and now even the international press. De Standaard this weekend (22-23 January) reports, by the Dutch NRC Handelsbald, an interview with Lorella Zanardo.
I hope you know it: creator of the short film visible on the internet "The women's bodies," the blog of the same name, now countless interventions in schools and community is a course for schools "New eyes for TV." I found out I had something in common with the path of Zanardo, I, too, since I live abroad, I dropped my "consumption" of Italian television dramatically.
Just look for a few weeks to other products, if it has the ability and language skills, to be disgusted (yes, it's the right word, disgusted) by the lowest level of TV in our house, and here am I doing all the grass a beam because the exceptions (which are but a few, not great) do not change my opinion of the whole.
Well for a while 'I looked right Tg1 evening, then came the management Minzolini and I realized that if I wanted to develop an ulcer that I had also cut the cord. A year ago we moved and then, in the following weeks without TV waiting to choose a new subscription, we realized one thing: the TV was strictly unnecessary, even harmful, to our lives.
For news we used to have only internet. Dotage of the evening we would have done without. In short, for over a year without live television, I realized that is not a choice so isolated and that is primarily a winning choice, especially if you have young children. Never ever I want my children to grow attached to the breasts (and ass) of TV Italy.
The learning of it would benefit not much given the level of the speakers, and their vision of the world would come out distorted. But then I discovered a fundamental difference with Zanardo: I have been satisfied, as many people to turn off the TV, stop watching that filth. Her no, she understood that it does not change anything and is taking action, even renouncing his work.
Chapeau. It makes me a great pleasure and gives me hope, the success of Zanardo. It is particularly important to work with schools, which educate the children to watch TV with a critical sense. Yet it is still a drop in the ocean, whereas 80% of Italians use the television as the only means of information (but then what information?).
To draw some conclusions from all this, I try to emphasize three elements of the article on Zanardo: it is worrying that the response received by Zanardo frequently at the beginning of his commitment was: Are not you afraid? She did not understand a thing, and people explained, afraid to criticize the television, which is His, the Master.
An incredible mental attitude, total subjection to the powerful, which demonstrates the depth of the weak point in the social fabric and identity of Italy itself, the optimism that can not be very moderate. Twenty years we have submitted (well, at least for recent years are subjected) to a media bombardment to decreasing quality, of which unfortunately do not see the bottom.
Even if he stopped tomorrow, it will take years and years to rebuild what was lost. And, first, to restore to women the dignity they deserve, first of all to regenerate in their own heads, and finally, as usual, we are in the foreign press with a very negative image (and unfortunately true).
The article is accompanied by a succession of still images from broadcasts Italic: half naked women lying down, clinging to teleconduttori Vecchiotti males, adjusted from porn magazine that first evening. I can assure you that my in-laws already Italians consider a sort of sub-race and criminal macho.
The recent events will not improve the situation, or with another or with all colleagues and friends from other cultures. Some of them may well be a bit 'racist. But our situation has become untenable.
