The British secret service (MI6) helped the Palestinian Authority to develop a secret plan to suppress the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), according to documents released by Al-Jazeera Palestinians and published today by The Guardian. The project, developed in 2004 and became a security plan for the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), watched the detention of Hamas leaders and militants, the closure of radio stations and the replacement of the imams of mosques .
The plan was approved by British intelligence at the time responsible for the security of the PNA, Jibril Rajoub, a leading figure in Palestinian confidential documents released by the quatarí news network Al Jazeera. Palestinians confidential documents, called "Palestine Papers', reveal a close collaboration between Israeli security forces and the NPA in military and security matters, which would confirm the allegations of Hamas on their alliance.
Most of the British plan was carried out by the Palestinian security apparatus in the West Bank headquarters, which is increasingly criticized for being authoritarian and committed human rights violations, to make arrests without cause and torture. The documents, whose authenticity checked the Guardian, including detailed proposals on security work, lists of possible suicide bombers and several issues require urgent attention.
Under the title "By degrading the capabilities of the opponents', MI6 recommended that the Palestinians arrest the top leaders and mid-ranking official of Hamas and other armed Islamist groups, like Islamic Jihad. According to the newspaper report, the plan is a confidential record of a meeting held in 2005 between then Israel's defense minister, Shaul Mofaz and former interior minister of the Palestinian government, Nasser Youssef.
'The articles highlight the extent of participation of British officers in the security of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank (West Bank), conducted since the 1990's by the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency United States)', said The Guardian .
