A Tunisian private Falcon in theory carries the Tunisian President Ben Ali, fled the country this afternoon, has landed at 22.00 hours in the Cagliari Elmas airport, which is guarded at this time by members of the Italian air police. An Italian Air Force spokesman, Col. Cazzaniga, confirmed to El Pais that a plane has landed emergency Tunisian civil airport in Cagliari and have enabled the security services.
The spokesman could not confirm whether Ben Ali is on board or not. According to several Italian media reported the plane had landed from Tunisia for permission to refuel. Minutes later, Paris would have given the Falcons a permit reservations, demanding to be informed of the identities of the passengers.
Later, France has denied the plane permission to touch French soil and the plane has been on the trail of Cagliari. Italy has asked the pilot to refuel and take off immediately with a new flight plan, but at 2345 the unit was still there. Despite the peremptory orders for the plane takes off, Rome and Tunisia have refused, however, that Ben Ali is on board.
The news of Cagliari are unclear. The ground commander has reported that among the three passengers not traveling the president, and two of them off the plane and have said the same thing. But the third passenger has refused to get off the airplane. A close relationship of Ben Ali's relationship with Italy is close since becoming prime minister in 1987.
With the support of French and Italian secret services during the governments of Bettino Craxi and Giulio Andreotti, Ben Ali Bourguiba managed to overthrow the president and take their place. The story was confirmed years later by the then head of the Italian military secret service, Admiral Fulvio Martini.
In 1994, Ben Ali granted asylum to former Socialist Prime Minister Craxi, who fled Italy to escape the judicial inquiry Clean Hands. Craxi Hammamet lived until 2000, when he died of a heart attack and was buried in Tunisia. Ben Ali decided to put his name to a street in Hammamet. In recent times, relations between the regime of Ben Ali and Italy's Silvio Berlusconi has remained friendly with illegal immigration, tourism and bilateral business background.
The employer and the Italian prime minister opened a couple of years ago in Tunis Nessma TV satellite television, a project to transfer the philosophy Maghreb "family" of the Mediaset channels. Also participates in the business Tarak Ben Ammar, the Tunisian-French partner in the film production Berlusconi Quinta Communications, which also owns a Lafitrade, Libyan company which closes the triangle with Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.
