.- Three U.S. soldiers were killed and another wounded as they carried out operations in Iraq, according to a U.S. Forces in this country. The note, which provides few details of what happened, indicates that the victims were in two separate incidents that occurred in northern and central Iraq. Shortly before the announcement of U.S.
forces, the Iraqi Interior Ministry had reported that three U.S. soldiers were injured when hit by Iraqi soldiers during training near the city of Mosul in northern Iraq. Ministry sources said that the incident took place at Camp Al Gizlani, 30 kilometers south of Mosul, where soldiers participated in training with weapons.
The soldiers were taken to a hospital belonging to U.S. forces while the Iraqi attackers were detained for questioning. Also, sources reported that a U.S. military base, located in the Al Sabtya, 10 miles north of the city of Baquba, capital of Diyala province, was attacked with Katyusha rockets and that was not immediately clear whether there were casualties.
Attacks against U.S. troops are not common in Iraq since August 31 last year officially ended its combat mission in the Arab country. Today in Iraq are less than 50,000 U.S. soldiers, dedicated to training and development work, which will remain there until the end of 2011, according to the security pact signed between Washington and Baghdad in December 2008.
The first casualties after the departure of combat troops occurred last September 7, when two U.S. soldiers were killed and seven wounded by gunfire from an Iraqi Kurdish military in a town in northern Iraq.
