Lebanon, the UN tribunal on charges of causing the collapse of government Hezbollah

Fall of the government of national unity that would heal the fractures of the civil war in Lebanon. Yesterday afternoon, while Prime Minister Hariri was in Washington, received from Barack Obama, 11 ministers of the Shiite party Hezbollah and its allies have resigned. The reason for the decision is clear and explicit Minister Gibran Bassil: everything comes from domestic disputes to the UN tribunal, which means Hezbollah accused of the murder of Rafik Hariri.

For some time the Shia movement had asked the Prime Minister Saad Hariri to stop cooperation with the UN Special Court for the murder of his father. Lebanon tensions grow back then in the civil war. The story background for the long diplomatic effort by Syria and Saudi Arabia, which have recently tried to work on a political compromise between the Lebanese armed forces.

But the opposition accuses means any agreement would be blocked by the U.S.. "The actions of Syria and Saudi Arabia," said Hezbollah "has now reached a stalemate." The collapse of the government concerned because it could rekindle sectarian violence off in 2008. But the crisis was predictable? Maybe, if you think that last Wednesday, the ministers of Hezbollah have been met for talks from one of the officers of President Suleiman, the minister Hussein, announcing that he would be discharged.

And Hussein has resigned, following the same step of the ten colleagues in the March 8 coalition. Since Hussein, according to the Lebanese constitution, one member appointed by the President of the Republic, his resignation, along with the number of ministers who have left office, the government crisis is official.

Today Lebanon is an arena of allegations. The Minister Mohammed Rahho, a member of the party of the future government coalition, said that the resignation of the Hezbollah members were intended to paralyze the state and to force the Prime Minister Hariri to reject the authority of the UN tribunal.

So while Obama praised the peacemaking of Hariri, and accused Hezbollah of having boycotted the work of the government, interim Prime Minister flies to Paris by President Sarkozy, to discuss a crisis has already been announced. Nasrallah, Hezbollah's leader maximo declaring the end of the "Court of Israel, many commentators emphasize the uniqueness of this crisis is the first time that a government in Lebanon is shot down by the resignation of the Ministry.

It 'now up to President Suleiman to find a way out of it. Consultations do not appear easy, indeed could go round in circles without being able to lead to a compromise candidate. Israel is closely following the developments of the political crisis in Lebanon, but that is an internal affair of this country "said the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Yigal Palmor, who wanted to go beyond this comment.

The Israeli press reports citing sources in the defense establishment, which in the opinion of the next days will be crucial for Lebanon. The developments in this country, they added, could have an impact on the entire Middle East. These sources say that while the situation along the Lebanese-Israeli border is currently calm and do not see signs that may indicate an upcoming turn for the worse.

For this reason, according to these sources, the Israeli armed forces have not altered, at least for now, their deployment along the border and have not taken special precautions. Stephanie Pavone
