The Labour Party to the Independence division based Barak

TEL AVIV - The Labour Party, led by the Minister of Defense Ehud Barak, is close to a split. The announcement was Barak himself in a press conference. The new party is called Atzmaut, Independence in Hebrew. In the current Knesset, Labour has 13 MPs out of 120. According to the early, Barak intends to take a split in the parliamentary list along with four deputies (Matan Vilnay, Einat Wilf, Orit Noked and Shalom Simchon).

The new list will become a new name. Behind the move, say some analysts, there seems to be the Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, which was made part of these developments have in recent days. "Our list - Barak said at a press conference - was to become a movement and then a party" to have an ideological platform "Zionist, centrist and democratic spirit of the teachings of David Ben Gurion." Deputy Minister of Defence Matan Vilnay - who followed Barak in the new list 'Atzmaut' - confirmed by its commitment "to continue the peace process with the Arab world and primarily with the Palestinians." Arguing with the then former party colleagues Vilnay added that "in this context is wrong, however, always be with a stopwatch in hand" and thus limit the freedom of action of Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu.

In support of the division, the parliamentary Einat Wilf said that now the Labor Party had established two schools that could no longer live together: a "pointing to the left, the Meretz party," while the other (his) has a more centrist. The other eight Labour members who have not followed Barak were surprised by these developments and have not yet announced their behavior.
