An Israeli commission absolved the Government and the Army of allegations of wrongdoing by the bloody capture of a Turkish aid ship tried to break the blockade on Gaza, and said the activists on board were responsible for the violence. Turkel Commission, composed of six members, including two international observers, whose report will be the focus of a presentation of Israel to an investigation by the United Nations Organization (UNO) on the May 31 incident, was in favor of naval blockade, but Israel urged to review the implementation of sanctions on the Hamas government in Gaza.
"Resisting clearly capture, Mavi Marmara had become a military objective," the commission said in the report of 245 pages, referring to the ship boarded by Israeli sailors at sea after they ignored orders to leave. The incident killed nine Turkish activists in the clash. Adds that the ship was not found relief.
"The first soldiers who went down to the Mavi Marmara felt their lives were in danger. Acted responsibly and professionally with extreme violence by militants IHH group. " On the HHI, the document recalls that an extremist group banned in Germany and is not concealing its relations with Hamas.
"Most of the dead had expressed his desire to die as shahidim (martyrs) in the Mavi Marmara. The commission accused the HHI, the Turkish charity that owns the Mavi Marmara, to carry out resistance "planned and extremely violent" was directly "connected to the current international armed conflict between Hamas and Israel." Findings are unlikely to be welcomed by Turkey, a predominantly Muslim country that had been in alliance with Israel and that Israel has demanded an apology for the raid and compensation for the deaths.
Turkel Commission said that the blockade of Gaza was justified given the threat of trafficking in weapons of Hamas and Israel's efforts to keep relief supplies flowing to the Palestinian enclave. Israel said the ruling was biased researchers. The cabinet of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately welcomed the conclusions of the commission that in its view, prove that the use of force by Israel was justified "as an act of self defense." While the commission organized by Turkey in response to the creation of the Committee of Inquiry Turkel also denounced the Israeli report, declaring themselves "shocked and dismayed" by its findings that excuse the Israeli army.
"The attack by Israel in violation of the law in time of peace or war is also contrary to all principles, rules and standards," he said in a statement the commission meeting in Ankara. In September, three international experts appointed by the board of the UN Human Rights to investigate the attack said they had been illegal and that Israel committed human rights abuses and international humanitarian law.
A Jerusalem is concerned about the expected publication of the UN ordered by the secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon and chaired by former New Zealand Prime Minister Geoffrey Palmer on the attack boat, which left nine dead Turks. The Turkish prime minister, the moderate Islamist Recep Tayyip Erdogan harshly criticized the Israeli report on the attack on the "Freedom Flotilla" and considered "not credible" and "tailor made" for what the Israeli government wanted to hear.
The human rights organization, questioned the credibility of the Israeli commission's report and called the report "whitewash" and said the credibility of the investigation "has been in question since the very creation" of the commission. Fawzi Barhum, the Palestinian Islamist movement's spokesman, said the report "is a desperate attempt to legitimize the crimes of the occupation and to improve the image (of Israel) to conceal the crime, it is necessary to prosecute the guilty ".
