If a playwright meets with politicians, it is almost inevitable that mentioned the politician, what would be written for a play. Today, a politician always says: "I want a play about the financial crisis." Several years ago, but a politician once told me that he wanted a piece of European integration.
And then he beamed at me as he would have supplied the idea for a European blockbuster. Of course I did not write this piece. Not only because I am from European integration even less understood than that of politicians from the theater. And there are no other pieces on European integration, at least not remarkable.
This comes as no surprise, because art always chafe at the conditions. Where everything is fine, the art has not lost much. (In this respect, the call for the financial crisis play is also understandable.) European integration has achieved remarkable: the superlative of Sunday speakers are entitled.
Today there are hardly any nation state in Europe, conflicts in which a threat of war is only ever possible. There is no stock, no blocks, no European division. The Soviet Union broke up, and three former Soviet republics joined the EU. But the rest of the former Soviet Union, the door of the European house was slammed in the nose. Even blatant experience from Ukraine, shook off in the Orange Revolution in 2004 an authoritarian government. Kiev revolutionaries were inspired by European ideals and carried by a European perspective.
Peaceful means for democracy, freedom and justice advocate - if not European, then what is? But Ukraine's membership in the EU was denied. This humiliation I experienced when I was a self-Ukrainians. It is often said that Europe is a "heart thing". Now, for the orange revolutionaries, and certainly for Mikhail Gorbachev, it was a matter of the heart - and they have not yet made it into the institutionalized Europe.
While the Danes, the Irishman and said to him that everything still no to the European Constitution, had to stay in the EU - or were simply asked for so long, came in to the desired result. Language barrier makes Brussels a foreign body so I can Europe as a "heart thing" not taken seriously.
Rather than a bureaucratic structure which is very useful in daily life. Just think of the privileges of a protected status as a "European consumers". A "European identity" is counter to the language. Everyone knows that the communication produced in the native language of a very different basis.
And, unfortunately, is able to communicate in the indefinite future not European by a majority of Europeans in a common language. Every European politician who speaks in his native language, understood only by a minority of European citizens. However, since the language, the rhetoric of politicians is their most striking distinguishing the European politicians are the majority of European citizens are extraneous and Brussels remain always a faceless and speechless spaceship.
And a solution for it does not exist. There are people who love their car. Others assert that it was "just a commodity." And so it is with Europe: Europe can be matter of the heart. But fortunately it works that way.
