BUENOS AIRES, 29 Mar. The presidents of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, and Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, on Tuesday underlined the importance of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) to "resolve conflicts" in the region "in peace and without violence "after a meeting in Buenos Aires in which signed several economic and social agreements.
Chavez arrived in Argentina on Monday as part of a tour that will take place this week in the region that will also include Uruguay, Bolivia and Colombia, where he will hold meetings with the leaders of those countries considered key players in the political and economic strategy of the Bolivarian government.
Venezuela and Colombia will alternate in the coming years the general secretariat of UNASUR, thanks to a consensus achieved after overcoming one of the worst political crises that have faced both neighboring countries and major trading partners. Soon assume the former Colombian Minister Maria Emma Mejia, and subsequently, former Venezuelan Minister of Energy Ali Rodriguez Araque.
"We in America have faced in recent years in tough situations. The next secretary of UNASUR will be an agreement with Colombia and Venezuela. Look at what shows to know seriously pursue diplomacy with a capital" stressed Fernandez de Kirchner. Chavez compared the situation in Libya "colonialism" that supposedly have imposed U.S.
and NATO by "bombing" against civilians, with the climate of "peace" that permeates the South American territory. "South America as a great land of peace, to resolve our conflicts peacefully, do not want more wars, no more bombs we do not want fighting between ourselves," expressed the Bolivarian president.
"The alleged barbarians have resolved our differences in the framework of international law and using our diplomacy to resolve our conflicts," said for his part Fernández de Kirchner from the Casa Rosada, the Argentine Executive. NESTOR KIRCHNER Chavez has used his visit to Buenos Aires to recognize the work undertaken by former Argentine President Nestor Kirchner, who died in October last year when his tenure as Secretary General of UNASUR, the first thing that organization has had since its creation 2008 .
"Whenever I remember and I remember here in Buenos Aires," said the Venezuelan leader to arrive on Monday to Argentina. "I remember Nestor, Argentina youth raised now," he stated. The Venezuelan leader has stressed that the Argentines are in Fernandez de Kirchner "a president who is uncompromising defender of human rights, freedom of speech, press, thought, as it was Nestor Kirchner."
