Reported hundreds of dead 'slaughter' in Libya

After international agencies and local media report of bombings and shootings of demonstrators in neighborhoods of Tripoli about 250 people are reported dead so far only as of the day. Witnesses at the site reported that the bombing of the Libyan air force against protesters demanding the downfall of the regime of Moammar Gadhafi has been "intense" and have focused on several neighborhoods of the capital.

While the Qatari television network Al Jazeera gives a figure of 250 deaths, the Arabiya television is more conservative and refers to a balance of at least 160 fatalities result of the fighting in the capital of Libya. State television said that this operation has caused "many dead", but gave no further details.

Al Jazeera says that the bombing occurred shortly after that all telephone communications were suddenly cut in that part of the country. Witnesses quoted by AFP news agency described as "slaughter" what happened in the last hours in two districts of Tripoli. One of the sons of Moammar Gadhafi said the veteran leader will fight the popular revolt that has shaken his government 40 years until "the last man." People in Tripoli expressed anger behind his words.

The chain also claims that both drivers have refused to drop their bombs on Tripoli and protesters have preferred flight and landing at an airport in Malta. Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister of Libya denied previous versions that reported that Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi could have fled their country due to Venezuela, said Monday in Brussels, British Foreign Minister, William Hague.
