Clashes after Gadhafi appearance on television

Clashes between protesters and security forces and an intense exchange of fire occurred in the center of Tripoli, at the end of the speech of Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi, according to the Qatari television channel Al Jazeera. The network said that the clashes and shooting occurred in the neighborhood of Bin Ashur and Al Yumhuriya Avenue in the heart of the capital.

On the other hand, several protesters shouted jeers and laughter in the eastern city of Benghazi during a speech on state television in which Gadhafi announced he would continue in power. According to eyewitnesses told Al Jazeera, the protesters also threw shoes at the president's image, a gesture of contempt in the Arab world.

About 300 people have died in recent days in Benghazi by gunfire and bombings directed against civilian protests that erupted in the city, which is under control of opposition forces. Despite the violent protests that shook Libya, Gadhafi said in his speech that is "willing to die in Libya" and combat the "rats that create unrest" until the "last drop of his blood.

As for these words, the Libyan opposition activist in exile in London to Qamati Yoma said in an interview with Al Jazeera that "the speech reflects the degree of desperation that is living (Gadhafi)". Qamati said that the Libyan leader has suggested that the preservation of himself and his family in power is "the only alternative to the destruction of the country." "This man needs to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

We have information to suggest that, if you're finished, will resort to burning oil wells, and this causes an environmental catastrophe, economic and political," added the activist.
