Brazil: Lula attacked for misuse of public funds

The Crown of Brasilia has requested the initiation of proceedings against former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for misuse of public funds and requested the freezing of his assets, a judicial source said. In its official request, prosecutors accused the former head of state, in power from 2003 to 2010, and his former Minister of Social Welfare, Almir Lando, have used public money to fund a promotion campaign policy between October and December 2004.
