BERLIN - Mutiny, almost like on the Bounty. But it happened not centuries ago but last fall, aboard the tall ship Gorch Fock, German laVespucci, that is the training ship of the Navy Federal. The military commanders had put everything to rest, the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry has uncovered the scandal.
It seems like a centuries-old history, the Germans told the media online for hours. And the beautiful three-masted white symbol and pride of Bundesmarine so far, the ship becomes the nightmare and shame. It 'happened in November. The Gorch Fock was cruising course for cadets to Latin America.
At sea, a young cadet, the 25nne Sarah S., fell while descending from a tree after working the sails. He spoke of the tragic accident, and not just the military ship reached the harbor of San Salvador de Bahia, Brazil the course was dissolved, all cadets were repatriated by plane, and the ship was destined to slowly return to the only crew of an ordinance.
It seemed a strange decision: in 52 years of cruising on the Gorch Fock there had been fatalities, but never any interruption of a trip. The reason for that choice was withheld from the controls until yesterday, after the death of Sarah, had exploded on board the rebellion. Captain Norbert Schatz, an expert Bundesmarine officer, William Bligh is the situation: he was commander in the cruise.
The testimonies of the cadets to the Committee of Inquiry are chilling: after the death of Sarah, the anger of the Cadets exploded in revolt. Enough, they said. In vain commander appointed two senior cadets as mediators. The revolt s'inasprì, the officers had lost control of the ship. Mediators and two other cadets were accused of "lack of cooperation," expelled from the course for "incitement to mutiny and insubordination, threatened with repatriation and prohibition of continuation of the officer's career.
Then, perhaps to an order from Berlin to minimize, silence and cover up, those decisions were suspended. But the stories of the cadets are frightening: the harassment of the instructors on board was extreme, to the sexual harassment: "Go hang on the trees without protection or you sent home and career goodbye," or showers, "the ship is like in prison, the newcomers will protect the c.
.. ". At the first protest, Schatz had responded by calling all the cadets on the bridge for a collective blame. In this climate of terror, Sarah had died after falling from a tree. Almost three years ago, so too was over Jenny, a 18 year old cadet. Last November, the cadets have had enough.
With the mutiny, as it was centuries ago in the Royal Navy. Thanks to the revelations of the media, can now hope for a rematch.
