Government crisis: Ireland's lost a quarter of his cabinet ministers

Martin was the strongest intra-party challenger to the prime minister. He had called for a new party leadership. Cowen moved with the confidence the consequence of criticism of his crisis management during the banking crisis. Even party members had criticized his actions. Ireland had come under a severe financial crisis in financial difficulties and had to seek billions in aid from the European Union.

For the current year budget must be six billion euros in savings.
