The NATO secretary supports Egyptian and Tunisian people

The secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Anders Fogh Rasmussen, an official visit to Israel, defended the efforts of Egyptian and Tunisian peoples to establish free and democratic society. "NATO supports the efforts of Egyptian and Tunisian peoples for the establishment of a free society and a democratically elected government," he said in an interview published in the newspaper "Haaretz" and which says that, for now, sees no Israel as a member of NATO.

The NATO Secretary General met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, quoted after which expressed its hope to increase strategic cooperation and intelligence with Israel. "We share the same concerns," he told a press conference held together with Netanyahu in Jerusalem, referring to the fight against terrorism, or threats such as nuclear or missile attacks.

The head of the Israeli Government Rasmussen thanked for their support and noted that cooperation with NATO is important for Israel, especially in times of great uncertainty in the region. Furthermore, Rasmussen, 58, former Danish Prime Minister reiterated the newspaper that the three conditions set for a possible NATO intervention in the process of Arab-Israeli peace.

He said there must be a peace agreement based on the solution of two states, a request by both parties to this involvement and a UN mandate. On the possibility that Israel lift its relations with the Alliance and become a member of the same, the NATO representative recalled one of the rules of the organization limits membership in the European and North American countries.
