The leader Moammar Gadhafi on Thursday urged the Libyans to take guns away from protesters who have taken control of large parts of the country. "The Constitution is very clear: take the weapons from them," Gadhafi said, speaking by telephone to Libyan television. "I have only moral authority," said Gadhafi, who traditionally has sought to present itself as a leader of a revolution that is run by the people, instead of a traditional head of state.
Thursday blamed the head of Al Qaeda Osama bin Laden to manipulate the Libyans who have risen up against its mandate and took control of large areas of oil-producing country. "Bin Laden (...) that is the enemy that is manipulating people," Gadhafi said, speaking by telephone to Libyan television.
"Do not be influenced by bin Laden," he added. Referring to the violent clashes that occur in the city of Zawiyah, about 50 kilometers from the capital Tripoli, Gadhafi said that what happened there was a "sham." The self-styled revolutionary leader offers condolences to those killed in protests and called them "sons of Libya." Speaking on Libyan television on Thursday, said that people are facing each other and are consuming hallucinogenic drugs.
